Questions, answered properly
These are the things people actually write to ask us before their group signs up for the first time. If yours is not here, the contact form is two clicks away.
The group
How many of us have to be?
Between 3 and 6. Three is the minimum because two people are a pair, not a group. Six is the limit because three or four groups meet at each plan, and beyond that nobody really talks to anybody. Your group can be women, men or mixed: whatever it already is.
What if there are only two of us?
Then you cannot book yet, and we would rather tell you straight. Find a third: someone from work, a neighbour, your sister-in-law, the friend you always say you should see more of. The invitation code stays live, so they can join whenever they get round to it and you book once you are three.
What happens if one of us drops out at the last minute?
Nothing serious. When the organiser books, they tick who is coming to that specific plan, so anyone who cannot make it is simply left out and you pay for the people actually going. The one rule is the floor: at least 3 of you have to turn up. If someone drops out after the booking is made, tell us: more than 48 hours before the start we refund their place, and inside that window we cannot, but we still want to know how many of you are coming.
I do not know anyone who would come. Now what?
Then it is worth asking, because that is more common than it looks and the answer is usually yes. Two people from work and one neighbour is already a group. What we do not do is put you into a group of strangers: SAL only works if you arrive with people you know, because that is the part that makes walking in easy.
How does the invitation code work?
Whoever creates the group gives it a name and receives a code like SAL-4KP2Q. You send it to your friends, they create their profile and type it in, and they are inside the group. It is not public and it is not indexed anywhere: it only travels as far as you send it.
Who books, and who pays?
The person who created the group is the organiser, and they are the one who books for everyone. Payment goes through in one go, per person, and how you settle it between you is your business.
The questionnaire and the avatars
Do all of us have to take the questionnaire?
Yes, every one of you, each on their own. It is 25 questions, about six minutes, and there are no right answers. Until everybody in the group has their avatar, the group cannot book. It is the only thing we ask of you before the plan.
What do the 25 questions actually ask?
They ask how you behave around other people: whether you say yes before checking the route, whether silence makes you uncomfortable, whether you would rather go deep with one person or move around the room. Nothing about income, star signs or physical appearance. Your answers place you on six axes, and the axis where you stand furthest from the middle gives you your avatar.
Is the avatar a personality test?
No, and we would rather not pretend otherwise. It does two things: it gives the first conversation of the evening somewhere to start that is not the weather, and it lets us make sure each plan has people like you and people nothing like you. It does not classify you, it does not appear on any public profile and it does not put you in a category we treat differently.
Can I retake it or choose the avatar I prefer?
You can retake the questionnaire whenever you like from your account, and the new result replaces the old one. What you cannot do is pick the one you fancy: it comes out of your answers, which is the only thing that makes it worth anything.
Who sees my answers?
Only the SAL team, and only in order to work out your avatar and put the groups together. Your individual answers are never shown to your friends, to the other groups or to anyone else.
The plans
Is this a dating app?
No. You go out with your own friends to meet more friends, and perhaps someone special turns up along the way. There is nothing to swipe, nobody gets matched with anybody and there is no gallery of profiles. What there is, is a plan on a Thursday with three or four groups of people your age.
What kind of plans do you organise?
Small ones, with some charm to them, in Palma de Mallorca. We are starting with rooftop gatherings at hotels in Palma: a drink at sunset, a good room and three or four groups who did not know each other that morning. Other formats will come once this one is running properly.
How many people are there at a plan?
Three or four groups, so between twelve and twenty people. Yours stays together: we never split a group up and we never leave one on its own among strangers.
What age do I have to be?
SAL is a 45+ community: there is no upper limit. Some plans state an indicative range on their own page. If someone in your group falls just below by a year or two, write to us before booking and we will tell you honestly whether that plan works for them.
Can I come with my partner?
Of course, as long as they are one of the 3 to 6 people in the group. What you cannot do is come as a couple on your own: a group is at least three, and coming as a pair is exactly the thing SAL is not for.
Where exactly are they held?
The neighbourhood or the venue is always on the plan page. For some places the exact address is emailed to confirmed groups 48 hours before, partly out of respect for the venue and partly so that a private plan stays private.
What is included in the price?
It is stated on each plan, under "What is included": at a rooftop gathering, the welcome drink and the sharing plates. Anything not included is settled at the venue on the day.
Prices, payment and cancellations
What does it cost?
The profile, the questionnaire and the avatar are free, now and later. There is no membership and no subscription. You only pay for the plan you go to, per person, and the price is shown on the plan before you commit to anything.
How do we pay?
The organiser pays for the whole group in one go, by card through Stripe or with PayPal. The payment is handled entirely by the provider: your card details never pass through this site and we neither see nor store them. Your places are confirmed the moment it goes through and everyone gets the email.
Are the prices final?
The price shown on each plan is the final amount per person, taxes included where applicable. No booking fee, no surcharge appearing at the end.
How do we cancel?
The organiser cancels the whole booking from the account, or by email, at least 48 hours before the start time, and we refund the full amount to the method it was paid with. No questions and no penalty. Inside those 48 hours we can no longer refund you, because the venue is booked and the tickets are bought.
What if SAL cancels or postpones a plan?
We tell you as soon as we know and you choose: a full refund, or your places moved to the new date. You never lose money because a plan of ours changed.
Can we give our places to another group?
Not directly, because the evening was put together around the groups that booked it. Cancel within the 48-hour window, get your refund, and tell them to create their own group.
Privacy and conduct
What do you do with my data?
We use it to run your account, put your group into a plan and process your bookings, and nothing else. We do not sell it, we do not swap it and we do not hand it to advertisers. The privacy policy sets out every purpose, every legal basis and every retention period.
Is my profile visible to other people?
No. There is no public directory, no gallery and no way for anyone to search for you here. The other groups learn your first name at the plan, in person, and nothing else beforehand.
Can I leave my group or delete my account?
Yes, both, at any time and without giving a reason. Leaving the group is one click from your account; if you leave, someone else can join with the code as long as you stay between 3 and 6. To delete your account write to us and we remove your profile, your answers and your avatar. Billing records for plans already attended have to be kept for as long as the tax rules require.
What happens if someone behaves badly?
Tell the SAL host on the spot: there is always one there. Disrespect, harassment and using a plan as a sales pitch are grounds for being asked to leave and for losing access to future ones. It is a short rule and we apply it without much discussion.
